East Iceland

A quick update as I am ready to fall asleep. I am writing this in Lake Myvatn… we just got back from a natural geothermal pool. Very relaxed and ready for a good night sleep.

On Wednesday we went to Skaftafell National Park. We spent one night there. We arrived after the visitors’ centre closed and left before it opened the next morning. Great hiking to a glacial lagoon and then to a spectacular waterfall. We touched a glacier.

We kept driving that day after our long hikes. We stopped at another lake that had many icebergs and across the street was Diamond Beach. So called because of the ice chunks on the beach.

The next morning we began heading up the east coast. The skies cleared and it was a beautiful day with blue skies. We stopped in a place called Eskifjardur for a swim in a local hot pool. We decided to camp here overnight.

The next morning we began heading towards seeing puffins. We stopped in a small town that has an interesting rainbow sidewalk. We made it to the town with puffins by mid afternoon. We decided to camp there last night. It gave us a chance to go back to see the puffins in the evening.

That takes us to today. I will save today for my north post as we have now started westward across the North.
